Your laptop needs to have a wireless (NIC) 'network interface card' installed. Simple as that.

If by Compatable, they mean it has built in WiFi, then yes. But I will bet you will need a wireless card if it has no wifi. These cards run about 20.00, so not big deal. The plug into the pcimi slot.

If you don't have DirecTV/Hughes satellite service you need a land line/cable connection with a wireless router. Either way, it's the router that counts.

I dont know how things work in UK but I had to get a router and a modem. I found both in one unit and that was all I needed. and a USB flash comes in handy, but is not neccessary.

There's too much involved to cover everything in a post but do some good searches when you run into problems and use this as a starting point.

Yes that should be all you need. They should give you a CD and installation instructions. Fairly easy to follow, step by step directions.
