Hi. I want to work in a more formal enviornment, but I can't take out my nosering. i'm a hindu, but I am not sure if the managers will believe me, ebcause i am not 100% indian. (My grandfather was, and passed it down) So whats a way that I can cover it up, or convince them? I do not want answers like "don't get the job", or "they are ugly, or you shouldnt have gotten one inthe first place" I do not care about opinions on noserings. I just want a good answer. Thanks

Maybe it helps to bring or wear a piece of Indian Jewelry or some tining on you. Something that is tasteful, but ethnic and obvious. When you notice they are looking at it or your nose ring, tell them quickly, this is Indian; if you are wondering. and tell them your grandfather was Indian and you hope wearing religious Jewelry does not violate your policy. Or if they are polite enough not to look at your Jewelry, ask if religious Jewelry violates the company policy. If they never call back, try another company.

I can't say I know much about your religion. Is the nose ring required to be in all the time? There are inserts that will keep the hole open that are pretty much invisible. Could you use one of those during work hours? Check out www.painfulpleasures.com

Try explaining it to them. Some people just don't like/accept what they don't uncerstand. Tell them how it's part of your culture and tell them what it symbolizes (if anything, i don't know that much about Hiduism), they might end up being very interested. And if they're not willing to work with you or believe you, find another place to work. You deserve to work somewhere where your employer(s) respect you.

Who did you ask for advice before you had it put in your nose? Go back to that person and ask him/her. Live with the fact that not everybody has to accept your customs.
