Maybe he's waiting until you're a little farther along. Call him and ask. Maybe he was just behind and didn't think about it. You can also see your gynecologist too. Good luck and Congrats!

Why would he do a pap smear if you're pregnant? Is that a routine test? I had both my kids in michigan, and was never offered one.
At 4.5 weeks, there's absolutely nothing he can do for your baby itself...just you. Sounds like he gave you a very thorough exam. Did he tell you to schedule your next appointment? He sounds like an OK doctor to me, and honestly, if you have no means of paying him, I'm not surprised he didnt do more work. If you can't pay him, he has to absorb the costs. Now, if you had gone to him with one arm cut off and bleeding through your eyes, yes, he woudl be a bad doctor in this case for not doing more. Sounds like you're healthy though, and no reason for him to be overly concerned.

Some OB/GYN's don't do much of anything til you are further along in your pregnancy. I was three months pg with both of my boys before I got a pap test done. Every OB/GYN is different though, so I'd go with your gut on this one. If you REALLY don't like the doctor and how you were treated as a patient then I'd get a different doctor.

Yes, maybe you should switch doctors. Though it wasn't urgent to have a pap smear or bloodwork done, it appears he based his decisions on your ability to pay the bill. You have to wonder if he'll do the same thing on more critical decisions.
Doctors should make the same conclusions regardless of the patient's ability to pay. I'd trade him in for one less worried about the bills and more concerned about the patients.

As far as I was told when I got pregnant, you should NEVER have an internal exam while you are in early pregnancy unless is it ABSOLUTELY necessary. My first internal exam was a week before my due date to see if I had dilated yet.
Bloodwork was something that does get done early, but 4.5 weeks is only a couple of days after your period was expected. Most OB's and midwives don't begin prenatal care until 12 weeks.

there isnt much a doctor can do at the first visit other than a routine examination and some basic blood tests.
but then if you even had to ask yourself whether you should change doctors,my opinion would be to do so.you are going to entrusting your childs well being to this doc and if you feel uncomfortable doing so ,find a doc you like and feel comfortable with.
congrats and all the best with your pregnancy :)

switch doctors, this one sounds like an idiot. like everyone else told you, he should have done blood work and a pap smear to see if there were any problems. cause if there are, they need to be fixed as soon as possible.

They don't do any of that stuff til you are about 8 weeks along, usually. If he doesn't do it by then, then I would switch! I think he was probably just trying to save you money too, not being a jerk. All of that stuff is really expensive, and if your Medicaid hasn't kicked in, you could have been responsible to pay.

On that alone, no he didn't do wrong. You'll probably want specifically an Ob/Gyn to do your prenatals though (and keep this doctor for your other stuff if you like him otherwise).
I didn't even get my first prenatal appointment til around 8-12 weeks (can't remember at this moment) and I had only one internal exam before 36 weeks (they can irritate your cervix).

What are you waiting for? Switch doctor of course. Minimum he should have taken your urine test, not to mentioned about pap smear, are you sure you went to a gyne?
