Time added to international games to extend the game to make up for "stoppages" such as injuries, substitution, time wasting, lost ball, etc. This is added by the center referee & he is the only one who knows how much "stoppage time" is being added &, therefore, the only one who knows exactly when the game will end. This is also mistakenly called "Injury Time".

The purpose of stoppage time is to make up for lost time caused by injuries, or fouls. Basically for anything the clock wasn't stopped for.

to make up for lost times due to Injuries and other disturbances that might be wasting the 45 minutes. The stoppage time is announced once the 45 minutes are or almost over. Usually is no more than 5 minutes.

Time added at the end of the half to make up for stoppages in play due to fouls, injuries, substitutions, etc. Unlike other sports, football (soccer) hasn't figured out how to stop the clock for things like that.
