My dad is a doctor, and whenever I tell people that, the personal attacks start. I hear people ask me if I paid for my car, ask me if I pay for my stuff, if I don't have a job, they'll ask me if I live off my dad, if I have one, ask why I'm working...it gets annoying.

What is it their business? Why can't they just accept their responsiblity for their financial position in life, instead of complaining? So many of these same people are jealous of me, yet they won't do the simple things that will improve their life.

I don't care if you bought your car yourself, or live on your own on a minimum-wage job. Don't complain just because my dad bought a car for me or someone else. I know people who get 10x more than I do, and have the attitude to go along with it. You know what, if the person were nice, I wouldn't even care. I'm a nice guy, and I hear this crap all the time.

Foreigners like myself complain Americans are obsessed with money. It's so true.

Um, to the 13th poster, my dad could make a good living in many other countries...he doesn't need America as much as you think he does.

This isn't the only civilized country in the world, if it's even that in the first place. That's another thing I keep having to tell people here...read a damn book.

It's clear you're a working man and in a union, but guess what, you have a lot to learn about how the world works.

You have a job because you needed one, and the company was willing to pay x amount to you for it.

Deal with it.

I agree, that's crap. I had to deal with that as well. I took Social Work and was told by others in the class that I should not do it because of my background. Great attitude for people who want to help others...Be yourself. Make friends with people who like you for you.

I think it goes beyond being jealous. I resent doctors because in my experience with them I find them arrogant, self-centered and uncaring. THEIR bottom line is MONEY. Plain and simple. It is not the well-being of their patients.

Going beyond that, many are unethical, in the back pockets of the drug companies. The AMA is one of the most powerful organizations in the U.S., with many high paid people advocating for them on Capital Hill. Just like lawyers, they too only keep their interests in mind.

So, instead of bragging about what daddy does, take a look at daddy and ask this; is he doing things for others or just himself? When was the last time he did pro-bono work for people with no money? Does he just throw money at you and your siblings instead of really being a father to you? Are you spoiled rotten or are you a good person?

If he is a good person, and you are a good person, then educate people, don't get mad at them. If he has been a great person helping others, not gouging patients with big bills, etc., then you can tell them that.

Foreigners like you complain about American's all you want, but the fact is your father lives here for a reason, he makes a great living he probably could not anywhere else. Stop complaining and start appreciating where you live.

well hold on there little one,I don't care if your daddy has money
but all rich and super rich people have gotten there by the work of the labor, but the labor is always getting screwed, how they make less money that a doctor (in this case because your daddy is a doctor) but is just as important, how is that you say, well I will keep it simple, without the labor your daddy would not have
the house he was raised in
the school he went to
the university he went
the facility he works at
As for Americans wanting more money
Sky rocket health cost, see your daddy that's his fault
low paying jobs
high cost of living
high cost of housing
high cost of transportation
and that's your daddy fault too, because he feels above us because he is a doctor, I bet they take that medicaid out of the system you daddy will have to cut back
now that is just a shot summery of why and don't forget insurance companies give him bonus for not treating people or giving favorable reports so the person that is injured gets screwed, so when you set at the table to eat you don;t have to ask daddy what he did to get that fat juicy steak, remember he took it from a family that needed it, so live it up I could care less, you go to the restroom just like, and your days will end just like mine will so have all the fun you want, flash it spend it, by the way that money is worthless

At lest you agree and you know whats happening so I can live with it, my only hope is you have a great wonderful life then your kid will do like you trow your daddy in a nursing home you wimp, get over it you sound like a man trying to enlarge his penis instead of using it, must be Iranian

My husbands dad is a Doctor. And when i tell people about it they dont ask all them questions you are talking about. And his dad does help us out sometimes. But no one ask us about it. So im thinking it's not an american thing its probally the type of people your hanging out with. Maybe you should try and hang out with a different type of people if it bothers you to the point that your going to make a judgement on all American people. Good luck!!(p.s. and if you dont like american people then either go back to your country or dont hang out with them)Well obviously no one needs you here either or makes you even stay here so if you dont like it then leave rather than critizing innocent people just because they are american. Sounds like you are racist when america is a nation of immigrants but yet you dont even like americans.geeezzz so immature.

Because there are so many who don't have money, yet they try to look like it. When they come into someone who is genuine their light fades and they need another way to shine. I'm poor and black but I wouldn't be the same any other way(and probably wouldn't like it in my opinion). I thank you because some wouldn't even care less.

it's not true only of Americans I think. Envy is world wide. I don't know. I'm always happy for others' success, but many people are unable to think this way.

These are people to ignore. Count your blessings. Happiness is based not on what happens or what people do to you, but rather how you accept these people and things. If they're so shallow...ignore them. You have better things to do I suspect.

Hey,

You are really hurt.

Not all Americans are like that.

If you don't want to show off you don't have to tell everyone that your dad is a doctor.

Even if they ask you tell them that what difference does it make ,
he might be a simple worker, I work independently and I am determined to make my own future .

Best wishes for you .

I would say that the majority of people in America WITH money are not nice people,.. look at our congress if you don't believe me.. look at dick cheney.. or bush.. or all of haliburton..
Personally, I do not care how much money you have or anyone else has... I was married to a guy whose family had money.. and I divorced him. Money cannot fix all problems, after all... And, yet, many people believe that the pursuit of money is the root of all evil.. could be!

Because one political party in particular makes its living off of class warfare, convincing the poor that the wealthy only earned their wealth on the backs of the poor.
