I always heard that laying down with your ear against a pillow for about 5 minutes helps get water out of your ears. I would think showering with a cotton ball in your ear might prevent watter from getting in.

Well dont worry because the earway canal is stopped by a tympanic membrane that will stop water from entering other canals. If you do get water stuck in the external canal, lay your head on a pillow on the side which has the water stuck. Do not agitate the ear further or water will be pushed deeper. Eventually it will come out and your ear will be back to normal. For showers in the future. do not position your head so that water can easily enter your ear. Tilt your head slightly at maybe about a 120 degree angle from your neck.

Shake your head, tilt your head and hop up and down on one foot, or use a towel to gently wipe the outer ear. You can also use a hair dryer on a low setting. Gently pull down your ear lobe and carefully blow warm air into the ear from several inches away.
Eardrops can help dry the ear canal. Ask your doctor or pharmacist to recommend one.
