I agree, I wasn't impressed, I thought they would play a lot better than that. Yeah we won, courtesy of an own goal.

Well England could have done alot better than that. A 1-0 win was a bit dissapointing especially as the only goal was scored so early in the match. England has plenty of chances during that match but the didn't seem to be able to grab them well enough.

J.Cole for O.Hargreaves well I think with Cole carrying on then we could have got a another goal. Owen needs games to get up to full match fitness again in preparation for the rest of the tournament. But it did work in favour of Downing who showed us he's a player to be remebered.

The match was comfortable but boring very boring it was all centered around midfield with some forays into the opposite half. The Referee was a well the right word doesn't spring to mind. Most of his decisions however seemed to be beneficial to Paraguay 2 yellow cards for barely passable tackles, and no bookings or free kicks for England when they were fouled, I think those decisions need to be considered.

But a win is a win and that game should have showed that England need to work much harder against other opponents to win the World Cup. The win was a good one considering the goalless draw of Sweden and Trinidad and Tobago. It puts us ahead in the group and hopefully we'll beat Trinidad and Tobago meaning six points altogether and a hopefull safe qualification.

Come on England!

I think that we can still bring the cup home. That performance wasnt great but then again its only the first game of the first round, so as long as we qualify then the England squad can get down to business. Right now it seemed more like a tactically bad friendly, but i didnt expect England not to win anyway. Think about it, most of our players are only semi fit, the football season finished a while ago now and the players left for training very late so I think Sven is using the first round more as a fitness boost than a tournament game. Sweden could be interesting though.

Yeah we weren't brilliant in the second half but we won which is goooooooood! Hopefully we shall improve once all our injured players are back on the pitch. Plus it was the first match, had to get into the swing of things etc. Should be quite easy for us to get through to the next round as Sweden have surprisingly just drawn 0-0 to Trinidad and Tobago!!

They couldn't even a score a goal they only had 1-0 because of an own goal, if that didn't happen it would have been a draw they were LUCKY, but I hope they keep playing like that as I don't want them to win

I was disapointed. Our only goal was scored by their skipper. Mind you, the Ref was after Crouch. He was south american (Mexican) and most refs fro mthere are crooked so he probably had a bet or was paid off.
But still we had so many chances and we couldn't pull 'em off. Oh well, when we bring cup home it'll be ok.

They werent brilliant but not terrible either. They seemed to be feeling their way around the other side and didnt make the most of some of the chances they had, at least they won though.

1st off all we got the 3 points we needed, yea it was an own goal but winnin is winnin, we didnt play good but wasnt awful, but remember its jus the 1st game so we jus gettin into it, but i was quite impressed with the defence, i thought it would be worse, they didnt really get past the D but our attackin was missin cos gerrard didnt get involved enough, sven needs to give him more of an attackin role instead of lampard, them shots lampard had were good but stevie G wouldv put them in the back of the net, well be ok, we can only get better.

Very disappointing, Gemarra made an auto-goal that is a BIG mistake, but we are humans, we are not perfect.

it was a very boring match.. i agree, they didn't show much of an effort.. even though they won.. i wasn't impressed.. i enjoyed the swede & Tri match ten times more.. but, it's only the 1st match.. sven would definitely have something up his sleeve.
