My teacher is really unfair, esp. in grading. She seems to think other students are stupid, and she favors certain students to answer the questions all the time. Then, she gives them better grades eventhough these students aren't good at all. I hate that kind of person.

She's actually a professor, and this is her last year, meaning she's retiring soon from the university. I saw it myself that she gave a better grade to her favorite student. And she gave a "normal" grade to other students, who aren't her favorite at all. What kind of professor is that?

It's not that I have a problem with her. She just doesn't want to hear my opinion in class. She always thinks whatever I say is wrong. It makes me feel bad being in the class. Man, I shouldn't have signed up for it! If I could turn back time.

This question is kinda tricky to answer, because no one can ever tell story from both point of view (objectively). Right now, I'm a lecturer assistant in my university, and now "lecturing" students in lab while the lecturer give lessons in class. So in the context of student's lab mark, it's all in my hand.

Sometimes, you can't judge people based on what is "seen", because you never be the person. If you ever tried to be in the person's position, sometimes (or maybe OFTEN) you can understand why the person is taking that kind of decision.

In my point of view as a lecturer assistant, I often found that:

- some student are so lazy even they are smart (such like doesn't giving any attention while I'm giving lesson in front of lab), and

- some student are work and study so hard (and willing to come to my home to study even it's 10 in night), even they are not dilligent.

For me, I will "reward" or "regard" student who are work or study harder with a more slightly higher grade than he should get. But with the student who are very lazy, even though they are smart, they will get their mark "as is", without any "modification".

And you know, IMHO, the "skill" to get closer and have some relationship with teachers is considered a "skill" also that must be learnt while we are still sitting in the classroom seat. I can say don't blame entirely on your professor if she gives higher grade to her favourite student. Instead of complaining, why don't YOU becoming her favourite student also? If you've already understand that smart brain is not her primary criteria at all (you said that they are NOT good at all, don't you), then it will be some other criteria that they have and you don't. Why you don't seek their plus sector, and make them yours?

IMHO, people who are good at lobbying other people, mostly will reach their success sooner than other people who are only depends on their smart brain, but lack of personal confidence in talking with much older people like your professor. Maybe they are not lack of personal confidence, but only doesn't care too much about people around them. A Professor is also a human, and a human needs attention and care, even though he is Albert Einstein!

Well, that's just me. I pray for your success in your study! =)

Professors are on a different set of expectations for grading students. You cannot challenge a "pet" getting a better grade than you for less or the same work, unless your grade does not reflect the professor's syllabus description of how grades are determined.

Review your responses and test answers. For the class participation component, did you regularly raise your hand to participate (even if you weren't called on)? Did your responses (written and in class discussion) show that you were making gains toward the class goals and objectives? If you continue to feel your grade was unfair COMPARED TO THE SYLLABUS, then take it first to the professor, then to the department head, then to the dean (if needed).

If your grade did reflect your gain toward the class objectives, but a "pet" or two got an "easy A," too bad. Get over it.

I'm now not certain why you believe she is being unfair. What she is telling you is that she wishes you to learn the newspaper, and continue what you're studying. It is a well reminiscence pastime and a well figure out in your mind. Why you may also view this as unfair is due to the fact you don't have any concrete field to research, no absolutes as to what it's you're intended to be watching for in the way in which of what could also be on a quiz. Stop freaking out and open your brain to summary finding out. It can be adequate. And if you happen to do poorly on one quiz the sector isn't going to finish.

Your teacher is just trying to help out kids that are disadvantaged.
If she dose not call on you that's because she is sure you already know the answer.

Lots of students get special accommodation to help them learn. If you want special accommodations too get a documented learning disability.

Students with learning disabilities are more likely to be graded on effort then ability.

For most students it's better to be graded against perfection. Some students are too far from perfect to be graded like that.
It is very hard to be fair when students are unequal.

Be grateful you are one of the smart ones.

The children she favors don't have it easy, not only is it harder for them to learn, but this unfair treatment may anger others.

How dose the class treat the students that are favored by the teacher?
How do you treat the students that are favored by the teacher?

I was a child that was continually favored be teachers. I never asked to be treated differently. I went through hell. As time went on it just got worse at first it was just insults, then people started to spit on me throw things at me and steal from me.
I dropped out of high school my senior year because of harassment.

You should talk to your teacher. Teachers don't realize the social consequences of their actions.

Even though students sometimes believe teachers do that, most of the time teachers don't do that. Teachers have rules to follow too. The teacher is the one who determines which students deserve good marks, and mostly they try to be fair. Sometimes students who get poor grades like to think it is the teacher's fault, because they want to blame someone.

You might need to practice the Serenity Prayer - God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

you really have a problem with this teacher- it isn't personal, she has a job to do and maybe you are not helping. I would try speaking to her, telling her in a calm way what you have put on here- maybe she is unaware that she favours certain students, and if she is grading them unfairly then she will be found out when it comes to exam time!
Talk to your form tutor, or another teacher in the faculty/dept, then try the head if you feel that strongly about it.
Do your parents know how you feel, could they help?
Teachers are only people, sometimes they need to be told they are making mistakes- just like you do!
Good luck!

Have a meeting with her, and if that doesn't work, have a meeting with her and her boss.
