Good information to help you resolve this would be: new or used computer? It could be shutting down for a multitude of reasons... The first to come to mind is temperature. Most motherboards shut down a few degrees before the processor's thermal breakdown point. You may want to see that your heatsink is seated on the processor properly, and that any and all fans are functioning.

Another common culprit would be a virus. Look for a free program that will let you do a boot time scan of your system.

when was the last time it was cleaned? everyday dirt and dust will build up on the components and cause heat problems. one of them is shutting down. do not use a brush or vacuum to clean the inside as a static charge smaller than you can actually feel can and will damage parts. if you are comfortable with removing the side panel you can do it yourself. get a can of compressed air from staples or some other computer store and blow the dust and other dirt out of the case. if not take it to a pro and have them do it.

It could be ANYTHING, software hardware - memory, hard disk, windows, drivers, anything!
So, to know what exactly is the problem u need to know the error message that why is it restarting. For that:
Right click on 'My computer' icon on desktop
Go to 'Advanced' tab
Under 'Startup and Recovery' click on 'Settings' button
Now under 'System failure' uncheck 'Automatically restart'

There u r done! Now it wont restart and might give an error message, so you'll know what exactly is causing this problem.

Hope this helps.

If it reboots it's likely a system driver or application problem: disable in control panel/system/hardware/start up and recovery/settings/system failure/automatically restart; this way you'll have a BSOD with the explanation of the problem.
If it shuts down and remains off you might have a BIOS setting or even an hardware problem: check the event viewer (control panel, administrative tools) to see what it traces.
