In 1994 the NIST achieved a record cold temperature of 700 nK (billionths of a kelvin). In 2003, researchers at MIT established a new record of 0.5 nK.

There is a lab in the former Eastman Kodak Company up in Rochester, NY that made mirrors for the Hubble space telescope and other secret thingies. They had a chamber there that they would place the mirrors in to test their behavior in space 300 degrees Celsius below zero.
