Visa \Vi"sa\, n. [F.]
A written stamp or document obtained by a citizen of one
country from the proper authorities of another country,
denoting that that person's passport has been examined, and
that the person who bears the visa is permitted to enter or
pass through the second country. It is usually in the form of
an endorsement on the passport of the person seeking
permission to enter a foreign country; however, in some cases
a separate document is issued that does not create a mark in
the passport. Same as Vis['e].

I KNOW! A passport is permission for you to travel to and/or from a country, but a VISA is what allows you to actually go in the country and travel around IN it. There are different types of visas for different types of travel, or reasons for being in a country.
