a 15 year age difference at that stage of their lives is not weird at all. Now if she were 35 and the step-uncle was 20, that would be weird.

Not weird at all. I know someone who is 45 and married to a 63 year old. He's 18 years older than her, and could very easily have been her father. Whatever floats your boat. I think age difference matters less in some age brackets.
