Not necessarily. I'm still friends with a friend I had in kindergarten, and I moved 1000 miles away. (I'm 37 now!)

As you go to different schools, and then on with your life, you will meet a lot of interesting new people with whom you can be friends. That is not to say that you lose your other friends. I am 33, and my two best friends are one who has been my friend since 3rd grade, and my other friend best friend I met when I was 18, and went to school. She lives in another state, but we are close. I have also made many friends over the years. Just be sure to stay in touch, but try to meet new folks too! Good luck!

are you talking about college? It's not always true, but most of the time you just get very busy in your college life and lose touch. Don't worry about it though, you'll have so many new friends and things to do that it won't be a big deal.

not necessarily. my best friend has been my buddy since we were 8. another has been a friend since high school. the three of us have stayed in touch through several moves around the country. in fact, one of them married one of my brothers, so she's not only my best friend, she's also the sister i never had.
