Core Duo (also known as Centrino Duo), here's one of my favorite picks, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115225
I wouldn't get a Pentium M because those are on the way out. Core Duo is definitely the way to go. Note that I picked a laptop with a dedicated graphics card and a lot of top end features but it is only $1,198 and for that price it can't be beat. It does have some "problems" such as you don't get a recovery disc with it but the hard drive has a recovery partition and the hard drive comes partitioned in two parts of about 45GB each (for a total usable space of ~90GB). Also, it comes formatted as FAT32, the first thing you should do when you get it is at the command prompt run convert C: /FS:NTFS that will convert C drive to NTFS. Also it has a lot of Acer "bloatware" on it so you'll have to run msconfig to weed most of it out. Or just uninstall it. But for the price it simply cannot be beat.
If you were buying a desktop I would say go with AMD. The reason you should go with Intel with a laptop is because they are offering features that AMD does not. Such as support for DDR2 memory and dual core processors. While AMD does offer a Turion 64x2 dual core processor, laptops equipped with those are few and far between, what's even more rare is a laptop that has that processor AND a dedicated graphics card. Intel is the way to go if you want more choices.
Just FYI, AMD is just now supporting DDR2 memory on their AM2 based motherboards and processors. But this is for desktops only right now, mobile versions are forthcoming.
Also, Intel is set to debut Core 2 Duo products in the not to distant future.
Okay, I couldn't send you an email because you had not yet confirmed your email address with Yahoo but, any of the first five laptops on this page should be fine, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2030260032+1039306628&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=32 but if you want a reccomendation, go with this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115236
Good luck.

Since apple decided to go from Power PC to Intel processors. Core Duo based machines seem to be the way of the future. And even if Intel has called the Mac version Core Duo and the PC version Centrino Duo there's not much of a difference
I'd recomend checking out http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115225
It comes with an Intel Core Duo T2300(1.66GHz) processor. Has a nice 15.4" WXGA screen, a ton'o'memory (1GB DDR2), decent space(100GB), a DVD+-RW Dual Layer, ATI Radeon X1400 video card with 128MB dedicated, modem, LAN and WLAN. The battery life should be a good 3 hours at least. You also get Windows XP Professional with it. The down side is the hefty 6.6 lbs.

Go light weight and cheap. Dont spluge for a processor if you don't need it. I have a celeron M and it works like a charm. No complaints and I rip DVDS to hardrive to watch when I travel. Video is smooth, audio is awesome and the processor can handle multi-task. Centrino is better if you plan to do a lot of mobile computing, however, I have a wireless card built in and I can internet on the go just as well. Check out dell.com. Click on the gold star that says great deals. You might compare Home and business prices. If there is a business price thats better, you can still buy it, just use your name as your business name. Dell will never know the difference. Not that they really care. I have gotten laptops for $100 less in the business part of dell than what thye were selling the same computer for in the home part of the website.

I like HP AMD ZV6000 64 Athlon series reasonble priced under $1000.00 and it has a dedicated graphics card this means that the video does not have to borrow from the systems ram(system memory) it has it's own. Great audio as well. Most laptops are sold with a 6 or 8 cell battery but in order to have decent battery life you should go with a 12 cell battery, they are a bit more exspensive but worth every penny. Italong with a six reader card and a dual layer dvd/cd-rom rw

you may purchase intel centrino. And it is less expensive than dual core
Do not buy amd it will have jams when working more than one process at a time after two or three months
