Possibly. but its very doubtful. If you google it you will see that they have proved it to be a myth. It is humanly impossible because the human face would have to have a different way of breathing. So i would have to say no its still a myth.

I believe the question is, Do they exsist? And the answer, a very confident YES!
Mermaids do exsist!! They live deep at the bottom of the ocean. Now you may be asking, which ocean. The answer to that one is, every ocean. There are Mermaids everywhere throughout the planets deep salt waters! They do come to the surface of the ocean, but catching them there is a rare occurance! Through experience, (some of which was bad and some good) they have learned when the best times and places to come up are. They love to watch the sun rise and set! So generally speaking, those are the two best times to keep an eye out if you wish to catch sight of one! Places of sightings are harder to narrow down! They do have favorite spots in which to visit, but they are not reliable in visitation.
They seduce sailors when they are bored of lonely. They have voices that carry magic through the air. The Mermaids song has led to the end of many poor sailors.
They are real! They are not often seen by anyone that lives long enough to tell about them. But on occasion, the Mermaid will choose to let her victim live. Perhaps it is because she will sense the good in his heart.

Mermaids, or half-woman-half-fish (and Selkies, which are half-woman-half-seal) have always seen by sailors who had been away from home rather a long time and had ample access to rum to "soften the blow" of being without women for extended periods of time.
It should come as no surprise that when these fellows saw a seal or a particularly beguiling walrus they should believe it was part woman! LOL

In ancient mythology and religions there are stories of men that came from the stars to earth and brought civilization to earth. Some of these people were half fish and half man and walked on the earth during the day and went to the sea at night. Some of the ancient gods were depicted in this form, Poseidon, Oannes the Babylonian god, Dagon the god of the Philistines that is mentioned in the bible, one of the Egyptian gods. As for if they really existed or not, I guess that depends on if you believe in the ancient astronaut theory were aliens came to earth thousands of years ago and represent the mythological gods.

Well, I've seen a few carp-faced folks walking around, but they lacked the whole gill aparatus. But they certainly look like they are descended from some unnatural act between a man and a flounder.
So I'll guess, "No." Unless you count manatees, like Baby Snooks. He's a sweetie.

Now, then -- which half is fish and which half is woman?
If the bottom be fish, what good to a "love-sick" sailor?
Fetch me rum, and a cabin boy, and be quick about it.
Aarggh, aarggh!

there is ample evidence that they did exist although not as intelligent human beings.
they were more like the lower part of a fish and from the belly button upwards, your body and intelligence.

Nope...sailors based that legend on the manatee, which looks kind of like a woman (a fat naked woman, I guess^_^) from a distance.

No they didn't. Sailors would mistake the sound of mantees (sea cows) and they thought it was a woman singing.
