All states have different banks, at 17 I opened my first account with a bank called First Citizens and they were great to do business with. They have toll free numbers if you need help and you actually speak with someone that can help you.
My cousin just opened an account with Bank of America and he had saved a bit of money up,come yesterday he deposited his paycheck and we went out of town. When we got there he tried getting money from an atm and it said he only had .57 cents in his account. He tried calling customer service but only got an automated response which was no help at all.My brother also dealt with the same bank, and they allowed overdrafts and caused his account to be messed up because it would say the money was there but then say it wasn't.
Worse bank I know of is Wachovia. My fiance had an account there, and it went very bitter.Same with my father,he would deposit money and go shopping two days later and then they would say he had no money in the account, and charge him fees.Same thing with a few more people I know.

Worst: Bank of America ( they hold check till you're broke then cash them and charge you overdraft fees out the back door)
Best: Wachovia ( super nice people, great free checking)

I have Citibank and they are really good. The worst horror stories I hear are from U.S. Bank customers. Money just disappears from people's accounts.
