People keep asking every telemarketer to put then on a "do not call" list. This way i think telemarketers have hard time getting a sale or lead. So my question is what do you think till how long this profession will survive.
I am a telemarketer, i would like to know shall i change my profession if yes what else can i do?

The profession will last as long as the owners are making more money than it costs to have a call center.

At least you are honest enough not to keep calling. Now there is a fine for those telemarketers that call illegally.
I would guess that the telemarketing profession will be hit hard. If you have good people skills and nice manners on the phone, why not try to work for one of the phone companies or a computer-related company in customer service. They will train you if you get hired.

Telemarketing is sure to be around for a long time if not forever!
The Do Not Call List only works for unsolicited calls, however, if you signed up for something online like apply for/shop for a mortgage, or looking for work at home opportunities, that gives certain companies access to your contact information, and makes it legal for them to contact you specifically since you initiated the process by asking for information from them, whether directly or indirectly.
if you are unhappy with your job - by all means, go somewhere else, but if you are happy with it, why switch?

About how long did buggy whip manufacturers last after Henry Ford manufactured an affordable automobile? Telemarketing is a strategy of the Interruption Marketing industry. Seth Godin, a former vice-president of marketing with Yahoo.com, defines Interruption Marketing this way: "For ninety years marketers have relied on one form of advertising almost exclusively. I call it Interrupton Marketing. Interrupton, because the key to each and every ad is to interrupt what the viewers are doing to get them to think about something else. . . A new form of marketing is changing the landscape, and it will affect Interruption Marketing as significantly as the automobile affected the makers of buggy whips . . . The alternative is Permission Marketing, which offers the consumer an opportunity to volunteer to be marketed to. By talking only to volunteers, Permission Marketing guarantees that consumers pay more attention to the marketing message,. It allows marketers to tell their story calmly and succinctly, without fear of being interrupted by competitors or Interruption Marketers."
So the telemarketing segment of the Marketing Industry will last about as long as it takes more and more consumers to learn that in this Information Economy, the power of the marketplace has shifted to them, and as long as it takes those of us in the Marketing Industry to make the paradigm shift from Interruption to Permission Marketing.

Actually telemarketing has and will be for years to come.
Do not call lists are like guarantee..they are offered because hardly anyone uses them.
Most people are too busy to bother setting themselves onto the list or with guarantees ahve forgotten about it after the purchase is made.
Both are just marketing ploys ;->

Indefinitely! There will always be people willing to purchase something by phone because of the convenience. Don't worry, there's still plenty of work for you. If you enjoy telemarketing, then continue with it!

I am a loan officer, and am required to do outbound calling. It all Depends on what you are marketing. In a profession like mine, you have many lines of marketing, I.E:cold calling, Realtors, businesses and referals. It once again comes down to what you market, so keep calling, and don't put all your eggs in one basket.

2nd question: The world is full of opportunities. You can do almost anything you put your mind to. You need determination and hard work.

I don't think it'll last much longer. I mean, who wants to be bothered by someone selling useless crap all the time? I sure don't.
