Spiro T. Agne was the first Vice President during Nixon's term, but he later resigned in 1973 due to a scandal. Nixon then nominated Gerald R. Ford (who was the House Minority Leader) who was approved by Congress and became Nixon's Vice President.

Spiro Agnew was the Vice President who was elected along with Nixon. He was charged with accepting bribes and falsifying federal tax returns, pleaded nolo contendere to the latter charge in federal court, and resigned October 10, 1973. He was replaced by Gerald Ford, who became President when Richard Nixon resigned in August of 1974. Thus Ford became (and remains) the only President neither elected as President nor as Vice President.
