Bad thing about any ipod is that if the battery stops working, you need to send it back to the company with $60 for them to fix it for you. You can't change the battery yourself. So get the warranty!!!! It's worth it!

You can change the battery yourself.

Anyways, the bad about iPod video is that it has an actual hard drive, which means moving parts inside of it. Anything with moving parts is bound to failure sooner or later, and when that hard drive goes out you aren't looking at a pretty bill. Sure, if you treat it right it will last a very long time, but if you drop it while the hard drive is spinning your pretty much ******. Also, the earbuds that come with it suck - do yourself a favor and buy a 20 dollar or so set when you pick the iPod up, or even the 40$ Apple in-ear ones. You'll thank me when you compare them to the stockers.

The goods outweigh the bad, though. With a 30GB you're looking at a song capacity of around 7,500 files. That's without any videos of course. For reference, I have 400 songs and 6 videos on my 60GB and it's taking up a mere 2 gigs. The portability is excellent. Sound quality is not an issue - as long as you have highend headphones or other means of output, the sound quality is the same as any expensive stereo unit you could buy.

If you're planning on using this for mainly music, I suggest waiting and getting the 8GB Nano that will probably be coming out soon. It uses flash memory and has no moving parts, so it will last pretty much forever, or just as long as you could expect a TV or something to last.
