Air pressure is caused by the wight of the gasses above you, just like water pressure is caused by the weight of water overhead. The deeper you are either in water or the atmosphere the more weight of gasses or water.

The weight of all the gasses over your head at sea level is close to the weight of a compact car. You don't notice it because its the air pressure our bodies are adapted to. Just like the animals in the deep ocean don't notice all the pressure on them because it's the environment they're adapted to.
