HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) attacks the body's immune system. When it does, HIV weakens the body's ability to fight off infection. If left untreated, HIV will eventually weaken the immune system so much that the person will become sick from certain types of infections. When the person gets these infections, he or she is said to have AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). For some, it takes a long time to develop these infections and therefore AIDS. For others it takes less time. Not everyone with HIV has AIDS and AIDS is not the same as HIV.

HIV is the virus that attacks the body which will weaken the immune system. As a result, other microorganisms will take advantage of this to attack the body and this results in AIDS.
When we say a person is HIV positive, it means this person has the virus within its body but the virus has not started attacking. It can take years before it does. This is in early stages of infection.
A person with AIDS is at the late stages of infection and not only has the virus within its body, but also the disease has developed as a result.

HIV is Human Immunodeficiency Virus while AIDS is the acquired immunodeficieny syndrome. The former is the cause of the latter. There is also another AIDS which is propagated by IMF and WB viruses and these AIDS kill the nations and make them vinerable to so many social problems and weaknesses.

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, but before it's actually developed into the disease. It's the virus working it's way to the blown out disease. AIDS is the virus in full bloom where the HIV virus has already developed into the disease.
