I own several guns and knives. When i was young i had to use a gun to keep some idiot from stealing or harassing my animals. I went around one side of the house and another family member went around a different side after hearing our horses start to spook. I saw a shadowy figure trying to catch my horse and took aim. I told him he needed to get away from my horse, and instead of running like I had hoped he would he started to move toward me. The gun was louder than I remembered from the range and the targets didn't usually howl in pain. Nor did they have buddies show up and help drag them away. I was more mad at the guy for trying to scare me and steal my horse then I was afraid of the sound the gun made. I have been target shooting since I was about 6 years old and knew very well what guns can do. Now I carry a concealed weapon (with a permit of course) and pray I never have to use it in self defense.

my father used to have a shotgun inside are house when i was younger he used if often to hunt, he always seemed to come home with something.....one day when i was 6 i decied on having a little adventure into my fathers room. Back then i had no idea what a gun was or where it could have ever been.
I looked under my parents bed and saw a shiny brown suitcase....
i grabbed it and brought it into the kitchen my mother freaked out!
She immeditly called my father into the kitchen....he said drop the brief case son...i immeditly did and began crying...he took the brief case away and i never have seen it again.
Later on in my life he told me the story of how i had grabbed the suitcase.
Boreing dont you think
thats a dad for ya!
also thats one reason you should not have a gun in your house even if you think it is well hidden some little kid could get there hand s on it

We own many guns, and "used" one to scare some punk away. The pistol was never discharged- just used as a visual aid of things to come. So there's not really a story here.

**Josh- your dad merely hid the gun. It wasn't locked in a gun cabinet with the key on his person. It is safe to have a gun in the house as long as proper safety precautions are taken, and everyone in the household is educated about gun safety..... yes, even at the age of five.

I have never used a gun in self defense, but i have used a gun to kill dinner. I love to go deer huntin and duck hunting. My dad, uncle and I go every year together and this past year I was the only one that got anything. Granted it was a doe but it sure tasted good. There is something about shooting your own dinner, it just makes it taste better.

Only at the firing range. But most people know I have them, a rifle and a handgun, and I KNOW how to use them. That in its' self is a deterrent.
