I've noticed in the close ups its an automatic but in the chase scenes u can clearly hear it shifting to high and low gears which to me says it was a stick..i was just wondering if anyone knew if they used 2 cars for the scenes

There may have been 2 or more. Some of the stunts you see would severely damage a car, and the production company would lose a lot of time repairing the primary vehicle. I worked with the production company of a truck driving show called "Movin' on" and they had two identical Kenworth tractors, primarily to be sure if one was damaged or broke down, they didn't lose filming time while it was being repaired. It also gave them the ability to use two film crews to film locations that were not near each other. They called these 'second unit' crews, and they would film the long shots of the truck just driving around, with actor doubles, that couldn't be seen very well in the long shots, driving

There were at least 2 cars
I seen a show along time ago on how they made the movie but I don't remember it exactly

They may have had 3-4 cars..

MAILBOX 1024 is corect. The sounds are added to the movie later. Remember that the next time you hear tires screeching on dirt or snow in a movie.

there was probably more than 2 cars, but what you hear is the sound track effects. They make you hear what sounds the best for a performance car.
