This computer is hardwired to the modem through the router. My internet connction will cut out every minute. No exageration. It is very noticable to me beacause i play counter strike, and i can no longer play for more than a minute without loosing the connection. CS IS MY LIFE PLEASE HELP!

I recently bought a new router - Linksys WRT55AG v.2 - there are usually 1-3 computers using the wireless A or G bandwith. But the problem still pertains when those pc's are turned off. There is no one leeching my connection either. Do i need a new cable modem? If so does the internet provider provide one? I never see them in stores...I am also not sure who to contact about the modem. We get earthlink, but i dont think that is the internet provider. I also remember timewarner and roadrunner. Are hose the same thing?
THANKS!

#1 - Take the router out of line. - If your problem persists, then you can eliminate the router as being bad.

#2 - Make sure all of your cables are good. Just one bad cable can cause the intermittent scenario you are describing.

#3 - Power cycle the modem. Turn off your computer first. Then, unplug the power cable from your modem for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in and restart your computer.

#4 - Check your Network Interface Card on your computer.
Start
Control Panel
System
Hardware Tab
Device Manager
Network Adapters

Right click on listed adapters
properties
Device Status is? If this says your device is working properly, then this COULD eliminate this problem. Not 100% guarantee though.

Borrow a friend's modem (if you can) and hook it up. This will help you determine if your modem is the culprit.

Still no help?

Call your service provider technical support and if you are nice, they may walk you through your problem at no charge. They will also inform you on how you can obtain a new modem, if that is the case.

Hope this all helps!

Yeah, I have the Lynksys too, and boy is it slow! Try turning the modem off and wait a few minutes before you connect to the internet. Works for me!

If your internet is through cable... you might want to get the CABLE cords replaced, the same thing happen to me. After they replaced the cord, and the little thing at the end.. it was all good.
