One of the prongs on the plug for my vacuum just broke off. :(
1) How do I get the broken prong out of the socket in the wall now; and more importantly:
2) Is it possible to replace the cord/plug thing so that I can plug the vacuum in and use it again? It's not under warranty or anything but it was super expensive and I really want to fix it if possible. Any suggestions ? Thank you.

Yes. To get the prong out of the wall socket, gather a flashlight, pliers, and tweezers. Then BE SURE TO GO SHUT ALL YOUR POWER OFF, AT THE FUSE BOX. USE THE ''MAIN'' BUTTON, SO IT'S ALL OFF. MOST IMPORTANT, TO AVOID ELECTROCUTION.

Then it will be safe to pry the broken prong out of the socket. Just make darn sure you have the power off before you stick anything in there.

As far as replacing the cord, you can get a new one at any hardware store. It's not hard to do, just look at how the cord is in now, and do the same. If any questions, someone at the store will usually be glad to help.
Good girl, I'm proud of you for taking the initiative!!

yes, you can have it replaced either by a company that specializes in vacuum repairs or even by a crafty individual.... so it can be done very easily.

As for the plug issue, you'll have to turn off the breaker that feeds that specific area in your house where the plug is located. Try an electrical device (hair dryer) in the other plug on the outlet to ensure you infact have no power and try a strong magnet to reverse the broken prong. This probably won't work so you might have to go to a hardware store and buy a new outlet, again very easy to install.

Good luck.

Try plugging something else in to deal with the part that broke off.

Then get a new cord (used) at radio shock or from a broken appliance. There will be two or three wires in the cord. Cut the cord, strip the wires on both cords. Use lots of electrical tape to insure that the bare wires will never tough. Then more electrical tape around the fix.

Yes, turn off the power in that room then pull out the prong then just call a repair shop. I have a really expensive vacuum too, and have dumb thing happen to my cord all the time, I usually run it over a bunch of times. They can fix it easy and it shouldn't cost you very much. mine is usually around $5.00.

if you try to get the "prong" out of the socket in the wall you could kill yourself. Are you in the USA? That's 120 volts and is deadly! Don't do it. Get a qualified electrician. Theoretically it is perfectly possible to replace the cord, but again, get an electrician to do it!

Please don't do this yourself unless you have a good understanding of electricity and it sounds as if you don't. Some of the advice from others here means you could electrocute yourself.

yes any hardware store sell new replacement male plugs, there easy to replace
you may be forced to replace the wall plug if you can not remove the broken male plug tip. NO MATER WHAT YOU DO INSURE THE POWER IS TURNED OFF BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO REMOVE THE BROKEN PLUG TIP FROM THE WALL SOCKET!

Shut off the power to the outlet and then use a pair of needle nose pliers to get it out and then contact the local sweeper repair person for your area they can either fix it for you or sell you the cord to fix it on your own.

for the prong, I would go to your breaker and turn off ur electricity and then put on some rubber gloves and pull it out, or else find something rubberish to get it out with if u can't just pull it
