I've never been to Arizona during August. What is it like to be in the hot weather at that time? I know the temperature is high, but it's dry, etc.

very hot and muggy! august is the month when our monsoon season is in full swing, we experience very humid weather with temps that range anywhere from low 100's (during our storms) all the way up to 115.
june, july, aug, and sept are our most humid, hottest months of the year out here (but june sometimes is hotter because it's a dry heat)
alot of people spend their time at the pools, in the air-conditioning, waterparks, and some go up north to get out of the heat.

I live out here in Arizona about 2 hours south of Tucson. It is very hot, one of the hottest places is Phoenix, but the air is dry and it fells hot but you don't get all sticky. If you are used to the east where you have such high humidity, I live there for 23 yrs, the army moved us to Arizona, it feels much better. I would take 110 degree weather over Ohio 90 and humid degree whether any day. Just Drink plenty of water and wear lots of sun screen the sun will burn you even if you already tan or don't burn easy. If you go to the grand canyon it gets cooler as you go down in the canyon. Have fun on your trip.

We live in Michigan and have a son who attended Arizona State University. His first year there, we took our vacation and drove him to school (2000miles one way!!). We were in Tempe in August and it was DARN hot!!. Yes, it is a dry heat, but it is still really hot. My son now lives in Mesa. Most of his time is spent in air conditioned cars, homes, and buildings. I thought the heat was quite oppressive and there was no relief from it at that time of the year. When we were there, a rain storm came through and it just poured. Shortly after it stopped, the sun came out and it was amazing to see the puddles dry up so fast. I have also been to Phoenix in Jan./Feb. and the weather was much more pleasant then.

Arizona is relatively dry all year round. The summer heat is literally like being in an oven. August and September are the height of monsoon season, when we have thunderstorms and dust storms, which usually occur in the evening. One thing I like about Phoenix is you can actually see the clouds roll in, pour down rain, roll out and then it is back to clear skies.

I live in Florida where it is a sweaty heat. You just walk outside and stand there for 30 seconds and sweat pours.Luckily Im right by the beach which is the only reason I stay here ,its quite beautiful. Im going to Phoenix in 2 weeks to visit my sister and will be renting a cabin in Sedona then going to the Grand Canyon.I know its hot there in Phoenix but I do not think its worse than humidity heat. Im looking forward to this dry heat!

It's oh so very hot! Dry or not. Here's a good rule of thumb (if it's summer think about going to places like Buffalo/Niagara Falls, Alaska etc. If it's Winter, look at places like Arizona, Florida, Mexico--Ha, ha) Enjoy your trip--the nice thing is that you'll have air conditioning & misting so you'll probably remain quite comfortable.

We went there for vacation last August--late in the month. It was great. Hot, but the one or two green weeks just happened to coincide with when we were there. This is mostly in the southern part of the state near and south of Tucson, but we also went to the Grand Canyon. Sure it was hot, but that's not the part that I mostly remember. We enjoyed Tombstone, and Bizby and the Dessert Museum. Just make sure the car is in good operating order and you have water with you.

I'm not one to let weather dictate my life.

July and August is when the "monsoons" move through Arizona. Yes, hot AND humid.

it can get into the high 110's low 120's. We'll have monsoon storms in the evenings that can be fun to watch.
