soccer was never a famous sport in USA and it probably never will be. it's all about American football witch is played with the hands........ I think it's tradition. and maybe they wanted the good game slap in the *** instead of the goal celebrations

Because not nearly enough people watch it, people do not enjoy it. While soccer is still growing in the US many people have yet to embrace it mainly because of the chances of 0-0 ties, the faking of fouls, and the fact that the US national team is barely growing into a competetive team and who really wants to watch their team loose?

1. All sports in the US are dependant on sponsors.
No $$$ = no interest. It's the "American" way.
2. The US is the land of ADD, most people in the US have difficulty paying attention for the 45 minute period.

Beats me ... hell, it probably is next to impossible to answer. How do you explain football/soccer's popularity around the world for that matter?
PS. It's not THAT popular. I mean in India, Pakistan etc. I think cricket is better enjoyed ...

Why is it so important that we like soccer? If by some miracle, the U.S. won the World Cup, that would just be one more reason for the rest of the world to hate us even more.(like the guy who answered above me) No thanks, we'll stick with our football.
