Because society has stepped in where they have no business (in some cases of abuse that is a different story)
but people disciplining their children anywhere outside of their home and being reported could cause them to lose custody of their own children.
And just look at where all this dogood has gotten us.
People who do not respect anything. People who destroy just for the hell of it.
A proper few slaps and spankings might have changed a lot of lives.
Spanking is not always the answer but it does help when talking or explaining or a child is simply too young to understand.
Nothing wrong with a little fear mixed with a lot fo respect.
More kids should have that.
But then I'm from the old school.

Its illegal in the UK now! The problem is even here most people think its ok to mildly chastise a naughty child. Its just that some people go over the top and then we have to take the childs legal rights into consideration. I believe the law says that children under 7 years of age are innocents who cannot do wrong therefore cannot be punished, or something like that.

Spanking isn't illegal but it doesn't work well, other things work much better. Problem is peoples definition of it, too many think beating your kid with something is spanking, it isn't. There are far too many people out there that don't know the difference between abuse and discipline.

Spanking or corporal punishment is not against the law anywhere I know of. Child Abuse is, but spanking is not, at least not in USA, where are you?

Because too many people are getting into other people's business and now some local governments are getting in on it, too.
I don't believe in spanking my kids but I do accept it is what works for some people. Please, just don't over do it or do it in public (that is very uncomfortable).
