I fly to Japan often and the prices have been pretty flat over the last four years. The statement that "prices are way up" is not an accurate one. The way to save money on travel is to pay attention to the flights you want and to be careful. Choose an airline and buy tickets direclty from them, it's generally the cheapest way. Also, get on all the mailing lists because they send out emails when they put tickets on sale. This is a great way to save money. Prices being up is a misnomer. It's just people assuming prices will be up because the cost of oil has risen. If you buy the right ticket at the right time, then you can get some great deals.

I think rates are definitely up for some travel. My wife and I could get flights for about $225 from San Diego to Hartford for the past few years, but this year it's more like $325.

Probably best to keep checking different sites with different dates, and maybe you'll get lucky!

Oh my God gas is expensive??? Thanks for sharing that tidbit of information. It cost me $120 to fill up yesterday.....

Try www.tripres.com, www.travelocity.com, or www.orbitz.com

Keep in mind it's sometimes cheaper to book airfare on the airlines website (same for hotels) as they don't have to pay a commission to an outside site. What the hell just try all of them and good luck!!!

Expedia, Orbitz.com, and travelocity.com are all good. Depending on your origination and destination points check with Jet Blue http://jetblue.com/ they have by far the best deals.
