To me the answer is pretty obvious. While he is great on set pieces, you never see him taking the ball from the opposition or winning a challenge.

Am I wrong

A little over-rated, yes. Beckham is a special, peculiar case. He is important in the English team and yet he is not a super footballer. He is PRECISE with his free kicks and yet there are loads of european players who are as good as him in that. Yet, I feel he should remain in The Team. I have always said that the two best players in the national team are Beckham and Lampard. But... CROUCH ???? Sven hasn't and never had a clue. He does not reach the ankles of managers like Scholari and Mourinho. If Mourinho took charge of the English National team he would FIRE all the players, keep Lampard and Beckham and start afresh from there. And... if he had been removed from the National Team we wouldn not have the 3 points that we do have, own goal or no own goal !!!

I dont think hes over rated at all, No one can bend It like Beckham, If my memory serves me right, wasnt there a film named exactly that? It was`nt bend It like Zidane, or Ronaldinho, or or Ronaldo, No...It was Beckham.... The man Is top class, he has his good days, and he has his bad days...after all, hes human...do you have good days everyday? where everything your doing goes right? No I didnt think so.
Hatchetman, May I suggest you read David Beckhams autobiography Its called My Side, You will see from his book that he didnt start off In this world as a millionaire, He was a normal kid, living In a normal household. Hes parents sacrificed alot for David to become the man hes become.,He worked hard, trained hard, and he deserves the recognition he has...Over rated? not at all.....Quality player, Yes!!.

After watching todays game I don't think so. All well-known players are overrated on some level, but it's the name that get them the attention.

I don't think he's over-rated at all- he does everything u could ask a good winger to do- he gets in many brilliant crosses, his vision is spot-on, he has great ball control & his work rate is superb. People just love to hate him, I guess.
