I went to back to the doctor's yesterday the lab called me and told me to go straight to the emergency room.they confirmed the baby was in my left tube they gave me a shot in my left buttocks and sent me home.Has anyone out there had the same problem?I'm wondering because I have no cramping yet that would indicate to me the shot is working.I'm also nervous because the doc said that it might not work although I'm early. He said if it does'nt then I might haf to go in for emergency surgery. He said I can still go to work I'm a L.P.N,so I really don't have a lot of lifting to do so he said I'll be fine.I also know that the medicine they gave me is suppose to disolve the baby in my tube so I'm trying to figure out will it be painful or just cramping.I have no bleeding yet they gave me this shot about 9pm eastern time last night please help!!!!!!!!!Has anyone out there ever had a tubal pregnancy and recieved this shot or what was the out come.Thank you.

In most cases, an ectopic pregnancy is treated right away to avoid rupture and severe blood loss. The decision about which treatment to use depends on how early the pregnancy is detected and your overall condition. For an early ectopic pregnancy that is not causing bleeding, you may have a choice between using medicine or surgery to end the pregnancy.

Medication. Using methotrexate to end an ectopic pregnancy spares you from an incision and general anesthesia. It does, however, cause side effects and can take several weeks of hormone blood-level testing to make sure that treatment has been successful. Methotrexate is most likely to work:

I'd stay home from work just in case of complications

The shot you were given was Methotrexate, a drug used instead of surgery to resolve an ectopic pregnancy. You will need to have your hCG (the pregnancy hormone) levels repeated several times in order to be sure that the pregnancy is no longer present in your tube. You may need to have another shot. If two shots doesn't resolve the ectopic pregnancy, you will need to have surgery.

You should not have excessive cramping or bleeding, this is because the pregnancy is not in your uterus and therefore the uterus is not involved in the pregnancy...so no cramps. If you do, call your doctor.

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, indigestion or feelings of fatigue, uncommon side effects are liver and blood problems, which will be checked for as the hCG bloods are taken.

Here are some things that are important after having Methotrexate:
* Avoid alcohol and vitamin preparations containing folic acid until the hCG level is back to zero.
*Avoid aspirin or drugs such as Ibuprofen for one week after treatment. Tylenol is safe to use.
*If you have severe pain or heavy vaginal bleeding, get in touch with the ER or your doctor.
*It is important that you use birth control for 3 months after a single injection or six months after more than one treatment.

You should be fine to go to work, though you may want to take a few days off to take care of yourself. This is hard on your body and you soul...

I hope things go smoothly for you, and I am sorry that you have had such an unfortunate and worrying pregnancy.

Take good care of yourself.

yes - years ago i received a series of shots after surgery didnt work. you wont feel any cramping from the shot - not like a normal miscarriage. your doctor should be doing a titer blood test every couple of days to determine the hormone levels in your blood. this will tell you that the embryo is dissolving.

do what they say - get some rest - everything will be ok.
good luck and hang in there sweetie!
