i was told that getting a devorce or being devorce gives you (me) a bad credit. is it true? and if i were to married to a person that has a bad credit will also give me a bad credit. please explain. thank you in advance for your reply and your time.

You have to notify the credit bureau that you are not married anymore and want everything from here on under your own credit. You may have to clean up any joint bad credit you had with your ex. It takes a little time, but it will be worth establishing your own credit!

divorce doesnt give you bad credit, but an irresponsible spouse can. if you are planning to get divorced, place an ad in the classified personal section of your local newspaper stating your name and the effective date and that you are no longer responsible for any financial obligation or debt other than what you have created for yourself. this will give you some recourse should your future ex-spouse not live up to their end of the financial agreement.

Yes, your married...combined credit score...will follow you for 7 years. And divorce is a nasty mess credit wise, for companies have no way of telling what will happen with finances...spouse support, child support, etc.
