It is much more than driving in circles. The strain, the talent and all it takes to drive those fast cars on those tracks is trememdous. I know why NASCAR is #1 and it's because of the fans, the sport itself and you don't have to be a millionaire to participate. You can go to a race or just watch it on tv and they are family! You will not find a greater group of people anywhere! They will go out of their way to see that the fans get the autographs or whatever it is they want. They do alot for charities too. Not a selfish bone in any of their bodies. Hail NASCAR I'm your #1 FAN & supporter.

Well, there's a whole lot of different views about this. Some people think NASCAR is a sport for redneck, trashy, ignorant people. Others think the sport is an exciting, interesting sport that anybody can enjoy. I personally love NASCAR racing and enjoy watching it! I never have been a big fan of baseball, football, etc, but racing just clicked with me. Then I started getting really into the sport and now I'm pretty much a die-hard. And I'm far from being a redneck, being that I live in the Northeast, am well educated, etc. I don't want to brag about myself, but the point is that I'm not a redneck and LOVE the sport, and there are many other people who are also not rednecks and love the sport! It's just a matter of taste, because I don't know why people like watching baseball, but there are thousands of people who would stand up for their favorite sport and would explain to me why it's so great. It's the same thing with NASCAR...just a matter of taste. I think Baseball is kind of silly because you just run around bases catching a ball. Big deal. But there are soooo many people who would tell me I'm all wrong! Same goes for racing, and any other sport! And let me remind you that even though I'm not a baseball fan, I never put people down who may like it. And the same should go with you...don't bad-mouth people who may like NASCAR! It's the number one sport because there are many many many people who just like racing. It's different, it's thrilling, and it's just plain old fun to watch!

Tell you what contact me. You pick a car Number and bet me 10 bucks on it that it will beat my car. I have #17 unless you want him then I will pick something comparable to yours. Then if you win I will mail you the money. Thats what makes it interesting. I am in a nascar fantasy league and have 1 main driver and pick 2 more for each race all year against 6 other people. I use to think it was GAY but that got me hooked and now I have been to 3 races in the last 2 yrs. And trust me races are 100% better Live. Its a party all weekend.

Number one. If you hate NASCAR you don't have to watch it. Change the channel. Or walk out if someone else in your living room is watching. Don't read about it in the newspaper, don't go on NASCAR websites.
And to the idiot who says NASCAR fans drive, everyday, like their fave drivers ON THE RACETRACK..not true. Most of us are careful and obey the rules of the road. Same for NASCAR drivers when they are away from the track(the one exception is big ears Kurt Busch who got pinkslipped by Roush last year for getting busted doing DWI by Phoenix police!)
Number two. I love NASCAR, and I'm NOT a 'hick',I'm just as passionate for other sports like NFL Football and NHRA drag racing... I don't smoke or drink beer, and I am educated. Not just high-school either. I'm a college student. If you think I'm a redneck because I choose to like a sport you think isn't COOL or you're some kid whose parents told you NASCAR isn't 'green' so be it...I am a racing fan and that will never change. I LOVE NASCAR. So there.
Go Tony Stewart!

Mostly for the crashes. Whether they want to admit it or not. Also, Nascar is very well marketed and the drivers do not look or act like supermen like some of the athletes in other sports, they look and act like regular guys.
I don't like Nascar either. Always moving, going nowhere.

NASCAR is only boring if you don't care who wins. If you don't have a driver that you really like, then it would be really boring because you are just watching cars drive around. It is really fun to watch if you have a driver that you love and a driver that you hate. If you want to see why it's so popular, then you have pick a driver and really support them and care if they win or not or else it will always be boring to you.
True NASCAR fans don't watch it for the crashes.

it's not just watching a car go around in circles. there is a lot more to it than that.. it's way to much to ever get into. i mean what other sport do you know that can be won or lost in a 14 second, four tire change, gas fill up pit stop?? or how many dreams can be shattered b/c your tire split? i mean, it's a beatiful thing..and trust me, to a fan there is not better sound in the world than those cars firing up and dropping the throttle to go to green.
it's a fierce competition..
i think your basic love has to come from car/motorsports type of stuff..and then the other stuff comes with it. and the more you watch it the more addicted you get.
as for me, i grew up with racing in my life..and have only grown more fond of it as the years pass.

I beleive NFL football is number one with NASCAR second. Personally I think it easy to follow. One race a week, usually on Sunday. It is easy to identify with the drivers and the same drivers compete every week, so you can allways watch your favorite driver regardless. Plus NASCAR really pushes the images and personalitys of its drivers through advertising and interviews. Technology has also helped with in car camera's and being able to listen to your favorite driver communicate with thier spotter and crew chief. No other sport gets you closer to the action than NASCAR.

it is actually more than that , there are rules and strategies and fierce competition , it is not a coincidence you only know a couple of names because they are the best in the sport , if it were just driving around in a circle the winner would be random . i personally don't like it but do respect it as a sport and did not know it was the most watched sport
