Generally in an industrial society, such as in North America, anorexia will NOT cause a bloated abdomen. Persons here, despite their eating disorder continue to have enough protein in their diets/reserve stores to prevent this. In third world countries, often malnutrition includes protein insufficiency. This is also called "quashiorcor". Symptoms of malnutrition/starvation in third world countries include often the bloated belly.
