15 years ago , I felt as if I was going to throw up and I felt terrified only because it was my first day at school. Now I feel the same way in my first day of work. Is this normal?? I don't know how to explain the lesson although I have prepared for it. I'm nervous and I don't know what to do. what is the best way to start the lesson ??
P.S I am fresh graduate . My job is teaching (yeah hard to believe ! )

Try to stay calm. Most of us felt that way on our first day of teaching. On my first day of real teaching I was 17 years old and I stood in front of a class of 43 kids and wondered what on earth I was supposed to do.

Your feelings of nervousness will go away as the days pass and you see that you can do this. The fear that you feel is normal, and will actually make you better at your job, because it will make you prepare your classes well. That is key - be well prepared. Teach your lesson and get the kids involved in asking questions and you will find out what you did well and what wasn't explained clearly enough. Try to have a little humor in your classes, but not to the extreme. Try to "read" your class, and if it will work let them know you are nervous and would appreciate it if they let you know when they don't understand something.

We all had to start somewhere, and we all learned as we went along. Take it one day at a time, and at the end of everyday review in you rmind what went well, and what went not so well. Find a teacher on staff that you can talk to. If you run into big trouble, get help - don't let it fester. Be fair in your classes, and the kids will recognize and respect that.

If I can help in any other way, feel free to contact me through this site.

It will all be ok.

What you need is more self-confidence in yourself and remind yourself you are now a professional and have earned the title. Next you must give yourself the time to get accustomed to your new job and to learn the ropes. You say you prepared your lessons in advance but may not feel practiced enough to deliver to a classroom. Practice them in front of a mirror a few times and pretend what responses you may get. You may only do this a few times then never again. What level are you teaching? I am guessing high school and that high school was a tough time for you. You may also have an administrator (principal) who reminds you of someone who was an intimidating figure when you were younger. Who knows )). Anyway, getting the kids to talk about themselves and share with you is easier than telling them about yourself so try that to ease into your new class. Also try a few sites from below...Good luck!

first day is the hardest,,,new school,,,new people and being a teacher it will feel just like being in school...just take a deep breathe and remember you are in charge and it does not matter if you are popular as long as the kids learn and respect you,,,if you act scared they will know
