This question brought me great thought. Not many things are truly free because even if not a monetary value, many things come at a cost. For instance, we could say that the air we breathe is free, yet at a price (pollution, allergies) we can breathe it. But the most important things are free. Love is free, not lustful or conditional love, but true unconditional love is free. Our thoughts are free, as long as some aren't voiced, as some would put us in jail or at the least a visit to an asylum.
The most profound, after much thought, of all free things that I found the most exciting is that a child's name is free. We can choose any name, we can make up a name, we can adopt a name and use it for our own child from anyone we please. We could pick a notorious name, based on fame or infamy. We can make up a name with letters in an order that would cause a tongue to be tied. We can pick a name that means beauty or death. Arrogant or humble. A name that comes from any origin or none. A name that has status or has never been spoken by any tongue. There is not a penalty or a fee or a consequence. Think about that.

There is heaps and heaps of things that are free.
You just got to know where to look and what to do.
I have been on many free holidays for example, I get on my bike cycle 30 miles to the beach put a tent up near the beach and the total cost of the holiday is zero, all I spend is what I drink or eat (which I would have done even if I didn`t go on holiday). A lot of my life is free and I like to keep it that way.

I like all the other answers, especially all the feelings and the smile.
Believe it or not, there is actually free service out there. Instead of dialing 411. Dialing 1-800-FREE-411 is free information. The computer does not understand you all the time, and their records are sometimes about a 1 to 1.5 years out of date. But hey it is free, who cares? I can put up with that.
Keep smiling. ;)

Although not exactly free because it is taxpayer supported, you can borrow books, movies and music from the library. You can surf the internet for free but advertisers support many websites. Public radio and public television are free to the listener although paid for by genorosity of donors. Public education is free to the student although supported by taxpayers. Most parks are free but supported by taxes too. Many health services are free although supported by the vollunteering health care professionals. Many scouting activities are free. If you volunteer you are contributing your time, effort and energy but you might get a free T-shirt. If you know which plants are not poisonous you can eat many wild plants for free. A fishing license is very cheap and you can catch a lot of fish to eat but it also costs you your time and effort. There are sometimes free air shows at military bases although the military pays for the show and the taxpayers pay for the military. There are free fireworks but someone sponsors the fireworks. There are free concerts but the musicians donate their time and talent and the municipality donates the electricity and space which is ultimately paid for by the taxpayer. Walking is free although sidewalks are paid for by taxes. Talking is free and one of the freedoms guaranteed by the bill of rights although few people have anything of merit to say. There are many things to do and see that are free to the participant though someone pays for these things. So really nothing is free although the resourceful individual can seek out sources of education and entertainment that are free to participants. It is important to become a volunteer and donor so that those who need free services may have that benefit.
Love and other emotions may not cost money but it takes a lot of investment of time, effort and energy. Oxygen is free to breathe but it takes a lot of energy from the sun to drive the photosynthesis process which produces it.

Yes there is, and it is the most important thing in life, which gives it meaning. It is called true love. True love is a decision a person makes to put the needs of the beloved above his own. Everything he does for the beloved comes from his heart. This most important commodity (LOVE), cannot be bought with money. If money is ever factored into the equation, it is no longer real love.

Technically speaking, a lot of things are free - disregading emotions:
- The ketchup packets at McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy's, ect.
- Sugar/Coffee creamer packets at Dunkin Donuts, Honey Dew Donuts, or Krispy Kreme.
- The napkins next to the ketchup/sugar packets.
Of course, if you're talking about something free that makes you happy, then you got me there - but who says you can't have fun with ketchup packets and free napkins?

Thought is free.
Bullsh*t is generally free, too, though the resulting cost of actually believing it can be very high.

Yeah--advice!
Sorry, kid, this is a fallen world, not Heaven. Heaven is free for you, but only because Jesus paid the price. (Although it does cost us our sinfulness, which really is just some dead weight dragging us down to hell. Fair trade, I think.)
