Dijay, if you have been in the trade for that long, that is the the first time I have heard that type of description on how an evaporator and a metering device work.

The evap coil takes refrigerant as a high pressure liquid and runs it through a metering device. As the refrigerant goes through the evap coil, it turns into a low pressure vapor and cools as the blower blows air through it. If the refrigerant charge is low, it cant fill up the coil and cool well. In some cases with some coil designs, only half of the coil will feel cool. Also, if the metering device isn't working or plugged, only half the coil will be cold. The metering device can be a expansion valve, or capillary tubes. One way to check for a plugged or bad metering device is that frost will show up right at the device. Ice will form right where the refrigerant enters the evap coil. More than likely, the unit is low on charge. Hope this helps!! Good luck!

That's kind of weird. But assuming what you are saying is really what it's doing, I would assume that you have some kind of blockage in the line that has moved into the coil.

I had something similar to this happen on a Dodge Caravan AC unit. Kept replacing parts and things kept failing. Turns out that their was some kind of plaque built up on the inside of the lines that was breaking loose and clogging lines. The only way to truly fix it was to replace all the parts at the same time. We opted to get rid of the vehicle.

Don't listen to the answers from nutsville the air guy you had don't know what hes talking about. If you're half way cold then you need refrigerant pure and simple call me.

It should be under some kind of warrantee with your A/C guy for at least 30 days (if not, get another A/C guy!). Call him again and tell him he didn't fix the problem.
