i have an onboard "broadcom netxtreme gigabit ethernet" or that is what is shown under network adapters in device manager.
now, is it enough for starting an Adsl connection or should i buy another modem? (if so what is the best?)

well anonymous, then why Ethernet one is better than USB?

You do not have a modem at the moment, but an ethernet card. You must get a DSL modem to use DSL (your provider should offer to sell you one). The good news is that the modem will most likely need an ethernet socket to attach to your machine. You may be able to do it by USB, but use ethernet if you can. It's better because to do it that way because it's faster (I think) and very many other devices can only use USB. It's better to have that USB freed up for future use.

Your Broadcom card listed is a NIC card. (network interface card). It has an ethernet port built in. Looks like an oversize telephone connection. Your DSL ISP will supply a modem. The modem has an input opening for the telephone (J11) cable and an output connector for an ethernet cable to be plugged into the NIC card opening.

you will need a ADSL modem to acces a DSL network.
