This as absolutely one of my favorite books, and I have watched the movie over 20 times. It's hard to pick a favorite character. I love ornery Gus. So set in his ways and full of life. Laurie is a sad character as is Newt, but they both have so many great qualities. Like I said, The whole book is wonderful. Gus saying,"The older the violin, the sweeter the music", is probably my favorite line.

Ha!!! This is my favorite movie that I hate to watch. So, sad, but, excellent!
Robert Duvall as Augustus 'Gus' McCrae. Because he a good example of a real ladies man. Even though he may have had more than one woman, they understood his ways. AND, they all loved him very much.
My quote may not be exact. "Lorena, let's cut the cards. You win, I give you $100. I win, you give me a Poke"!
