Here's a good link. I think they are too much of a health hazard to worry about natural methods - the natural method is for the mosquitoes to get to your blood and infect you! Often fatally.
One tip I heard from people who hike through National Parks in summer; when all repellants tend to wash off, because of water and perspiration; is to take a high dose of vitamin B for a month beforehand. This makes their blood less attractive to mosquitos.
What about one of those glowing electric zappers? Citronella candles?

Of course you need to make sure you are not giving the mosquitos a place to breed. If you have any standing water - even small amounts, get rid of the source. Stay inside during morning and evening hours. in the heat of the day you can investigate where the source is in your yard. if investation of neighbor, call your city or county health dept.

Depends. Make sure you don't have any water sources for them to breed in - If you do have a pond stock it with fish that will eat the larvae.
As a deterrent, plant Chrysanthemum which has Pyrethrum that will stop mosquitos.
The obvious suspects of burning mosquito coils, and oils.
Good luck.
