I can usually tell by the question if it is serious or just for fun. Why do some people feel the need to be rude to others by answering questions with hatefulness. Do they think they are being funny? Some people actually need advice.....

some people answer with hatefulness (sarcacism) if they
1) dont like you
2) try to act smart / witty

dont worry abt them, tho they may irritate you, just find comfort in complaining to a close friend instead. Ppl who answer this way are those who are insecure, and you will know to avoid them next time.

Maybe because the question being asked brings pain to them personally as in reminding them of something....then again maybe they are just nasty people. I usually just try to give honest commonsense responses just in case someone is really seeking advice.

As far as suicide questions, I try and tell them the most painless way. Its not being rude, as I will to, because of a slow disease.

Some questions are put out there to be rude and provocative, expecting a rude and provocative response.
