Yep, I agree, iron oxides.
When iron reacts with oxygen here on Earth, we see a similar reddish material forming. We call it rust.

The martian soil is rich in iron oxide, the mineral is very common in the Martian environment. Scientist are not in aggrement about why it is so common.
