Its the basic flaw - sex comes closest to the feeling of fulfullment- a feeling that is comparable to the spiritual high one gets from attaining enlightenment. All across the religions we are adviced to supress the things which gives us joy so as to put us to a path of controlling our lives which is really the biggest hinderance in our lives

I think "taboo" is a pretty strong word. All religions have rules for proper sexual behavior though - and that probably is because it is such a strong human urge. It would be chaos if everyone ran around amok, shagging anyone they felt like.
Think about it. During the centuries before DNA testing, there would be no way to know who all the baby daddies were. Without knowing who their own children were, men would have next-to-no incentive to provide for them. Granted, women are plenty capable of providing for themselves, but it gets a bit tricky when you're 9 months pregnant and going into labor - or have to face the prospect of hunting while breast feeding.
Families are a necessary part of society, even today. And in order to have effective ones, you need rules about sex. It's a fact every culture has recognized since the beginning of the world. Children don't grow up all by themselves.
Now granted, there are a lot of religions that also preach that abstinence is next to Godliness. But I don't know of any that mandate it for all believers (with the exception of the Shakers from the 19th Century. There are no Shakers around today for that very reason.) But, most religions recognize that sex is an important part of marriage - and that marriage itself is important. Only a select few of "the called" are required to abstain - and that is by choice.

All religions do not consider sex a taboo. The only taboo is having sex outside of marriage. Whithin the marriage positive sexual fulfillment is encouraged. Unfortunately, we have a retentive society when it comes to religion and sex. Attitudes passed down from the decades before the 1960's. That if a woman especially enjoys sex, then she is wanton or slutish. Even the apostles in the bible realized the need for love making in a marriage, and warned couples not to withhold sex from one another, unless it was mutually agreed upon, that they both no longer wanted or needed it. Any christian religion preaching that sex is wrong or dirty, does not know the gospel. Sex with someone you truly love, is no longer sex but love making. And it is the most enjoyable act that God ever created. To be cherished and respected as a gift from God and not cheapened or debased.

Many religions encourage sex between a married couple. They don't consider it taboo because it is a way to create life and for a husband and wife to bond.
Religions view sex between unmarried partners as bad because it may create a child, yet neither parent has made the committment to each other, let alone the child. And religion believes that children need good, involved parents.

Nahhhh... it's not taboo ... read the Songs of Solomon... very sexy book in the Old Testament. Sex is a gift from God. He created us male and female for the purpose of procreation, so I don't get where you believe that Christians... Jews... believe sex to be taboo! Research a little more before you go making a huge generalization. Now if you are talking about relationships that "use" the opposite sex merely for pleasure then check your moral character. That is immoral according to God's Word and if you check with the people of your past you will find that any time you have used someone... you will discover damaged lives.
Sex is a gift from God to be enjoyed as God created us to enjoy it... in the context of his purposes for us.. .in a marriage relationship. Not as some shallow personal satisfaction degredating of another person.

Firstly. Absolutely no religion considers sex taboo. Many religions exhort followers to have a good sexual relationship WITHIN MARRIAGE. Now, why is sex outside of marriage taboo? Because if you aren't married and are having sex then the clergy are not getting paid for giving you "permission" to have sex, procreate, and create more faithfull followers who will continue to pay the clergy.

Taboo? Says who? What Bible have you been reading? Have you read the Song of Solomon? Ummm, if you read that book in the Bible, that's some pretty "Let's get it on stuff in there!" God never said sex was taboo. Adultry, premartial sex, fornication.......God considers these taboo. But sex in itself? Why do you think God created Adam and Eve? (So that they could just look at each other? I think not!)

No, sex is not considered a taboo or a sin, unless it is exercised out side the marriage .
We are encouraged to exercise sex with our wives, but with total respect and to make it part of our thanks to Allah for such gift.
We are to practice sex in a human manner not like animals, that is the difference

It is suppose to be between two married people (man& woman ) whom express their love for eachother. Jehovah made us he knows us.It is "taboo" because a lot of people do not want to speak about it. It should be a private thing between yourself your mate & God, not the world, but you should never be afraid to get advice on certaain things ;-)
