She says, not any more, cause she loves me... and she loved me all the time - she just compromised for friendship to be close to me! Now I seem to be getting a girlfriend (new person...), and my friend backed out of my life completely... :(

I would ask her to stay friends, and if you like(more then a friend) to this friend, go out w/ them. Don't let someone that doesn't really like you mess up a possible relationship that would be better than the one that you are about to get in. trust me, messed up my friendship caused the same thing happened to me!
