There's no perfect answer. I would say the Samsung YP-Z5 1GB or iRiver H10 Junior (check out www.advancedmp3players.co.uk). Word of advice: dont be tempted by a Creative Labs product- they might be cheap and seem a good deal, but I've had two which stopped working about a month after the warranty ran out. They dont wear well either. I dont think iPod's suit your budget, and Sonys use a horrible proprietary software, so you can go for the ones I mentioned above, or the ones below them in the range.

we use the creative range in our housem, if you want a portable small capacity devise or a huge 20GB to hold all your music, creative have great devices easy to use & very reasonable.

ipod mini rocks, much better for memory than the nano.its got twice as much
