I would not go but would just kindly say that i can't get the person a present for whatever reason and say it would be unfair to attend the birthday party and give them a card. It's the thought that counts remember. If they still want you to go to the party then go!

Yeah, I would. A free buffet is too much of an opportunity to turn down! About the present, I would just say that it was short notice and I didn't have time to buy anything.

Haven't you got something you never use that you could give as a pressie? I always have something lying about like an unwanted birthday pressie. But, yes you should go; as long as you take a card.

You could always nick some flowers out of a neighbours garden (shush, I never said that.)

Always up for a party, but you don't have to spend a great deal on a present. How about putting a lottery ticket in a card for the birthday girl/boy. You never know they might win big time and remember that you gave them the ticket!

Just go to the party and say 'I Thought about buying you a present but could not afford it - but it's the though that counts' :)

Seriously though birthday parties are not just for receiving gifts from people - i would imagine you were invited because they wanted you as a person there to share their special day among friends, not just because they expected a present from you.

It all depends though on whether you were invited because you are a good friend/relative or if they invited you just to be nice or if they felt they had to.

it depends on who the party is for... if it's for a good friend who wouldn't really give a toss if u turned up with a present or not but just wanted u to be there then yes, go. if it's not someone u know too well and u can't even really afford to take a bottle of wine and u think you'll end up stressing about it the whole night then no, stay at home...

Yes, u could have! See u don't go to a birthday party just to give presents and take! if u r broke then u can go to the birthday gurl or guy, and explain it to him or her that ur broke and u'll surely buy her or him a present as soon as u get ur money!! I am sure a kind hearted person wont even mind if u hav got a gift or not cos he/ she'll only bother to c that ur comfortable and take care of u!!
