I'd definitely go for the diesel, better fuel economy, equal performance and longer life. But I think the MB 140 itself sucks terribly, it is not what you expect when you buy a Mercedes

both are rock solid If you are in the U.S. i probably would reccommend the diesel as power is pretty good and better mpg. if bio-diesel is available to you, try it. it is only slightly more expensive than dirt and is becoming more available . they say the fuel filters last longer too. [water makes up a certain % of regular diesel fuel, hence the water drain taps on most diesel fuel filters.}

well there both great engines and its well diesel might be a better choice now because of gasoline prices and millage a diesel get the same millage all the time fully loaded empty
