Because he is one of those quirky characters, who is not afraid to be himself. Very rare in Hollywood. I think he has chosen his profession because he really enjoys acting and wants to be good at it, not because he wants to be famous and adored. I think that's why he's so likable. His choice of roles speaks volumes. He does not usually choose a film because of box office appeal...although his presence tends to make them so. He chooses challenging roles, which expand and demonstrate his acting ability. Added to that, he is very good looking.
Another actor like him is Clive Owen. They are actors first, and all of the Hollywood hogwash is secondary.

I don't "love" him, but he is a very talented actor. Most actors get stuck in one kind of role and never do any others ( or if they do, its not very believable). Johnny Depp can play almost any role and make it work. A couple other films to mention are Secret Window and Benny and Joon.

Well, "love" might be a little strong.
Let me add a non-teenybopper comment here.
Personally, I admire him as an actor. His range is just incredible. Consider "Crybaby" "Edward Scissorhands" that antiquities dude in the satan book thing, Willie forgivehim Wonka, Jack Sparrow, and the scores of other roles ... the man is a complete chameleon, and generally (that is pretty general these days -Willie Wonka) chooses superior films to participate in.
He seems to have survived his TV roots completely undamaged, and survived stardom completely unbloated (headwise).
So, talent, good choice in films, not an egomaniac - what's not to like?

Everyone loves johnny depp because they believe their friends love johnny depp, so to fit in they like him too. lol

I use to like Johnny Depp when he was in 21 Jump Street. That was like17 years ago. I don't love him now.

Because he's a very talented actor. And he is very attractive, though, some don't think so (maybe you) but he also has a british accent that girls love! I don't think that you like him but i think everyone should respect your opinion. And if you do like him then why are you asking this question?

Take a good look at him - whats not to love!! Anyway, I think he is one of the best actors around and very versatile.

His intensity sucks me in. I too, loved Don Juan DeMarco, one of his best roles.

I don't...am I everybody..I prefer to set my sights on more realistic people, not Hollywood drama
