It's the first Indiana Jones film, where he, Indy, goes in search of the lost Ark - the Ark of the Covenant, wherein, it is told in the Bible, are stored the tablets of stone on which were written the Ten Commandments.

"Raiders of the Lost Ark" was the first Indiana Jones movie.

In it, Indy (played by Harrison Ford) goes searching for the Ark of the Covenant - the lost Hebrew treasure that once housed the stone tablets containing the Ten Commandments. The movie's set in the 1930s. Indy's an archeology professor and he's after the Ark because the Nazis want it. He has to get to it first so they can't use this powerful artifact for evil.

In the end, he succeeds. The long-lost Ark is found - and promptly gets shipped off to Washington, D.C. where it's crated up and stored in a giant warehouse. The last line of the movie has Indy shaking his head and mumbling that "they don't know what they've got there."

If somebody's referring to something as being like "Raiders of the Lost Ark" they most likely mean it's a rollicking treasure-hunt kind of adventure.
