Human communication is about verbal clarity, empathy and body language. The next step will be to transcend the barriers of many languages using Automated means.

For example, someone who speaks only Japanese can communicate with someone who speaks only German. Used to be that the only way was to have a human translator, but now inventors and computer scientists are working on language_A -> program -> language_B.

Considering the fact that the Earth is round Id say the next step in communication is likely to be cute little pigeons flying around with letters hung in their necks.
But before such obvious advancements Id really like to see man communicating with other species that live with us homo sapiens.
In other words man communicating with animals.
Id love to talk to my dog...
A dog is a man's best friend.

The George Jetson way of communication - the video phone will be used worldwide. It's already developed, but not the best quality at the time and veryyyy expensive. They will develop it with better technology to make the image and audio clear and voila! No more calling out sick when you're at the mall somewhere shopping b/c your boss will be able to see you.
